How it works

Every school measured the same way

  1. 1

    Each school is profiled

Every one of the 6,418 colleges, universities, and schools was rated on a long list of questions about who goes there, what campus life is like, and where graduates end up.

  2. 2

    10 dimensions

A psychometric model condenses those ratings into 10 dimensions, each scaled from −4 to +4 around the average school. The sliders on this page set targets on those same scales.

  3. 3

Two ways to match, anywhere or nearby

Describe what you want finds the schools whose profile sits closest to your settings. Start from schools you like finds the schools whose full rating profile correlates most strongly with the ones you named. Add a place and a radius to keep the results within reach; we look the place up on OpenStreetMap.
